Registration Q&A

Q: How do registration costs compare to other conferences?

A: Since registration for FDG 2009 includes your stateroom and all meals onboard, this conference is less expensive than many comparable conferences. Consider SIGGRAPH 2008, where a full conference pass costs $800 (ACM member, early registration) and does not cover hotel or meals (appx. $200 day for comparable accommodations and meals), for a total conference expense of $1,400 excluding transportation (compare to $650 or $725 for FDG 2009). The Game Developers Conference is also substantially more expensive than FDG 2009.

Q: Can I bring along family members or a guest?

A: Yes! The Disney Wonder is an excellent place to take a vacation, and there are many activities for family members not participating in the conference. One additional family member pays regular registration costs, while a 3rd & 4th person pay 50% of the normal registration cost.

Q: Why does an additional person pay the same rate? They're not attending the conference.

A: The costs of running the conference are covered by generous gifts from our corporate sponsors Microsoft and Electronic Arts. You are only paying the cost of your stateroom.

Q: Will I be sharing a stateroom?

A: Yes. Registration costs include one berth in a stateroom with two berths. When registering, you will have the ability to name other colleagues you would like to share your stateroom.

Q: I would like a single stateroom. Is this possible?

A: Yes, though you will need to pay for two registrations.

Q: I found a really good deal for a stateroom through another online site. Can I book that stateroom, and still join the conference?

A: No. Our contract requires the conference to fill a certain number of staterooms, or pay substantial penalties. Persons booking staterooms via other sites will be barred from conference sessions.

Q: The early registration deadline is, well, really early. Why?

A: Deadlines have been chosen to correspond with the cabin release deadlines of Disney Cruise Lines. The early registration is very aggressively priced to encourage registration by the first release deadline.

Q: If I have a paper accepted by the conference, can I still register at the early registration rate after receiving notification about my paper?

A: Yes. One author from each accepted full paper will be permitted to register at the early registration rate, provided this registration is received before February 9.
